This flat situated in a typically modernist block in Cape Town was renovated by opening up the existing rooms to create one large open plan living space encompassing living, dining and cooking on the ground floor with a separate guest bedroom.

The main bedroom was moved into the roof space upstairs – accessed via a steep playful staircase in the centre that houses the appliances for the kitchen behind and flows onto the lounge below.
Materials were chosen for their cost effectiveness and impact so as to give rise to a young, vibrant feel to the end product.
